Every Note has three parts: the transcript, the AI summary, and the original audio. We keep your transcript and summary until you delete the Note. The audio is handled differently, and how long we hold on to it depends on whether the Note was captured in person or on a call, and which plan you're on.
How long we keep your audio
For Notes you capture in person, how long we keep the audio depends on your plan:
Free: the audio is deleted 90 days after you record it. Your transcript and summary stay.
Premium, Business, and Enterprise: the audio is kept for as long as your subscription is active.
In every case, deleting a Note deletes its audio straight away. Your transcripts and summaries aren't affected by any of these rules, they stay on your account until you delete the Note or close your account.
Playing back your audio
Keeping your audio and playing it back are separate things. Audio playback is a paid feature: Business and Enterprise plans are entitled to play back saved audio in the app, while Free and Premium are not. On Premium, we hold your audio for the life of your subscription even though it isn't available to play back.
Phone call Notes
For Notes captured on a phone call, the audio is never stored. It's discarded as soon as the call is transcribed, so there's no playback and we keep no copy. You keep the transcript and summary, the same as any other Note.
If you move to a free plan
If you move from a paid plan (Premium, Business, or Enterprise) back to Free, a 30-day clock starts from the date of the change, and the audio from your in-person Notes is deleted at the end of it. Your audio is fully retained during those 30 days, so if you re-subscribe within the window, access is restored automatically. Your transcripts and summaries aren't affected, they stay on your account.
When you delete a Note
Deleting a Note removes everything for that Note at once: audio, transcript, and summary. Deleted Notes disappear from the app immediately. When audio is deleted, whether because you deleted the Note or because it reached the end of its retention period, it's removed from every copy we hold, including backups, within 30 days.
If you close your account
If you close your Blinq account, your Notes are deleted along with everything in them: audio, transcripts, and summaries. As with any deletion, they're removed from every copy we hold, including backups, within 30 days.
Why does a Note say the audio has expired?
If an older Note shows its audio as expired, its retention period has passed. For example, a Note captured on Free more than 90 days ago, or audio held after a move back to Free once the 30-day window closed. The transcript and summary are unaffected, only the audio file is gone. Notes you capture while your subscription is active keep their audio for as long as that subscription stays active.
FAQ
Do you ever delete my transcript or summary automatically?
No. Only the audio has a retention period. Your transcript and summary stay until you delete the Note or close your account.
Is phone call audio ever stored?
No. Phone call audio is discarded as soon as the transcript is generated. There's no playback and we keep no copy.
My audio is kept but I can't play it back. Why?
Audio playback is a paid feature on Business and Enterprise plans. On Premium, we hold your audio for the life of your subscription, but it isn't available to play back in the app.
I upgraded. Will my old expired audio come back?
No. Once audio has passed its retention period it's gone, and upgrading doesn't restore it. Notes you capture while your subscription is active keep their audio for as long as that subscription stays active.
What if I capture a Note in person, then delete it the same day?
Deleting a Note removes its audio, transcript, and summary immediately, on any plan, regardless of the retention window.
I removed a team member. Does their Notetaker audio get deleted?
No. Removing a team member's seat doesn't delete their Notes or audio on its own. While your organisation's subscription is active, their audio is kept under the normal retention rules. It's only deleted if the Note is deleted or the account is closed.
